HELP! My iPhone won’t turn on
Dead iPhones are scary and really inconvenient. Don’t worry. It can still be remedied before you call a technician to fix it for you.
Why is my iPhone not charging or turning on?
There can be many factors to this problem, so it is best to have patience in dealing with it. Your iPhone can shut down or turn itself off automatically if it detects problems within its system. Here are some reasons why this could happen to your iPhone too:
-
Apple Updates can be a bit too much for older iPhone models. If yours is a tad bit older and is still compatible with modern iOS versions, then you update it, you might end up with some incompatibilities. This could mean that you may have to restore the older iOS version or not update at all.
-
Apps may use too much memory and your iPhone just froze and died. This is possible if you are running resource intensive apps simultaneously. A restart will fix this most of the time.
-
The battery or the logic boards may be getting too hot. To prevent fire and permanent damage to its components, an iPhone may shut itself down for a while. This means it will remain off until it cools down to a manageable temperature.
-
If your iPhone is not charging at all, then try troubleshooting the cables and power adapters. You may even need to replace the charging port. This will take professional help, so avoid doing it if you are not technically inclined.
-
A bad battery can also cause some issues. A failing or a failed battery will produce unpredictable performance. It may turn on your iPhone but loses power in a few seconds or it won’t store any charge at all. This can be easily replaced, again, with some professional help.

Recharge
If you see the red empty battery icon your iPhone may not be able to work at all until there is a minimum charge in the battery.
If the iPhone’s battery is totally drained you may not see the battery recharge image for several minutes. If the display is blank when you plug it in wait a while to see if the icon makes an appearance.
If you see the red ‘filler’ of the battery icon flash three times and then the screen goes black, it means that iPhone is not receiving power to charge.
Remember: always plug the iPhone into a high-powered USB source such as the mains charger or one of the main USB ports on a computer that is plugged in. Firewire chargers will not work.
Restart
