How to set up your Google Home device

Whether you own the regular sized Google Home or the diminutive Google Home Mini, setting the smart speakers up is as straight-forward as A-B-C. Almost all the setup can be done in the Google Home app on your smartphone or tablet, and it just takes a couple of minutes to complete. Join us after the break where we’ll show you how it’s done.

First of all, you’ll need to download and install the Google Home App on your smartphone or tablet, which you can download directly from the Play Store. Next, you’ll need to unbox and assemble your Google Home or Mini device, insert the power cable and connect to the power outlet, after that it will play a chime to let you know that it is ready to set up.

Now you are ready to open up the Home app, where you’ll need to sign in with the Google account you wish to use with the smart speaker.

You should now see a card stating that there is a device that is ready to set up, if not, just tap the Devices icon on the top right of the app. Tap on Set Up.

Following the on-screen steps, you’ll be asked if you would like to set up this device. Choose Yes.

You’ll be presented with a message saying that the Home app is connecting to the Google Home or Google Home Mini.

You’ll be asked whether your Google Home device played a sound. If you heard, press Yes.

You can now set the location of the device, choosing whether it’s in the Bathroom, Bedroom, Kitchen, etc. Click Nextonce you have chosen its location.

The app will then ask you which WiFi network you would like to use with your Google Home device. Choose the network you prefer and click Next.

You will now be asked if you would like to use the WiFi network password from your phone or whether you’d prefer to enter it manually. I’ve found that entering the WiFi password manually is the most reliable way of setting the Google Home device up, but you can choose to do it automatically. If it works, great, if not, you can always come back to this step.

If you chose to do it manually, enter your password as you normally would.

The Home app will now show that it is connecting to your preferred WiFi network and after 1-2 minutes the Google Home device will be ready to go. You can now ask Google Assistant questions such as “Ok/Hey Googlewhat is the weather like” among many, many others.
