Summary of Empowering Independence, Connection, and Access Through Tech Innovation Across Southeast Asia and Oceania
Every day, people navigate unique circumstances that shape how they live and interact with their surroundings. At Samsung, we hold fast to our commitment to enhance daily experiences for everyone, developing solutions and technologies that empower people to experience a more personal and impactful world.
Reflecting on this purpose as we mark this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we turn the spotlight to inspiring solutions developed by youth in Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO) for Samsung Solve for Tomorrow (SFT) 2025—our global flagship corporate social responsibility program now in its 15th year. The program encourages students to address local and global issues using STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), and we have seen innovative solutions developed by the next generation of changemakers committed to break barriers and drive equity within their communities.
Innovating for Independence in Sports
Many of us stay healthy, build friendships, and enjoy the thrill of competition and achievement through sports and physical activity. Yet, individuals living with disabilities often face barriers when taking part in such activities.
Inspired by real challenges faced by the community and even close friends around them, some of our SFT teams explored how the intersection of sports and technological innovation can create meaningful opportunities for all to participate and compete. Projects from the Indonesia and Singapore teams were recognised for their innovative and impactful ideas, developed in line with SFT 2025’s new global theme—Social Change Through Sport & Technology—created in collaboration with the International Olympic Community.
Designed to help visually impaired runners navigate safely, RunSight combines smart glasses with a camera, earbuds, a computing unit, and a mobile app
Team LABMINO, winner for the University category in SFT Indonesia, were inspired by a close friend and avid runner who lives with impaired vision due to cataracts. This led them to create RunSight—a wearable device that recognizes track lines, detects obstacles, and estimates depth in real time. RunSight is designed to work without internet connectivity and with the goal of enabling these individuals to run freely and independently, which may reduce their need for guide runners.
Team Pei Pei Hwa Hwa’s Ando Hypohidrosis Vest acts like a “mechanical sweat gland”, helping individuals with hypohidrosis stay cool during outdoor activities
In Singapore, Team Pei Pei Hwa Hwa set out to improve outdoor experiences for individuals living with hypohidrosis—a condition that limits the body’s ability to produce enough sweat and regulate heat. In tropical climates, overheating can pose a serious risk, often leaving individuals reliant on ice packs, portable fans, or even surgery to stay cool during outdoor activities. To address this, the team developed the Ando Hypohidrosis Vest, an energy-efficient solution designed to keep the wearer’s back cool by circulating chilled coolant, enabling them to participate in everyday outdoor activities and exercise.
Bridging Voices, Building Shared Understanding
Deaf and hard of hearing individuals often face difficulties with understanding others and being understood. This prompted our Australian SFT winner to create a solution to support clearer communication.
Access Lens helps both Deaf and hard of hearing Auslan users feel more confident, connected, and included in everyday conversations
Within Australia’s Deaf and hard of hearing community, accessible and affordable Auslan (Australian sign language) translation tools remain limited. Major Prize SFT winner, Faiz Noorani, created Access Lens, a real-time augmented reality solution that uses smart glasses or a smartphone camera to convert spoken English into Auslan. Designed to run locally, Access Lens enables clearer communications with English speakers while avoiding the common barriers of other translation platforms, such as delays, cloud fees, and advertisements. With his AUD$10,000 (~US$6,574) prize money, Faiz plans to enhance Access Lens’ features, expand its reach, and build strategic partnerships to support long-term impact.
Equitable Medical Access and Early Intervention
AI SpineCheck provides a quick and easy way to screen children for scoliosis risk
In Thailand, Team AI SpineCheck set out to improve early detection of scoliosis after seeing many high school students needing spinal braces or surgery due to late diagnosis-leading to higher treatment costs for more advanced cases. Current screening methods often depend on medical personnel and can be inaccessible or inconsistent for local communities. AI SpineCheck simplifies this process with an AI-powered platform that analyses photos to assess spinal alignment. This offers a more accessible and convenient way to screen for scoliosis, supporting early intervention and better health outcomes.
Creating Better Accessibility and User-Centered Design for All
A key part of inclusion is not only designing innovations specifically for persons with disabilities, but ensuring everyday products and services meet the needs of all users, regardless of ability. Guided by this philosophy, Samsung devices, appliances, and solutions are designed to be inclusive, intuitive and convenient for all.
Visibility enhancement settings on the Bespoke AI Laundry Combo
Our 2025 Bespoke AI home appliances incorporate more streamlined control experiences that empower all users—including those with limited mobility—towards comfortable and accessible use. With simple voice commands, such as “Open the fridge door” to cue features like Auto Open Door for refrigerators[1], or “I’m going to sleep” to turn off lights and appliances via SmartThings routine once its set up[2]—users can manage their home hands-free. The Bespoke AI Pump Combo also features a large, easy-to-read digital display that replaces traditional dials and small text for smoother wash-cycle selection.
Guided by an accessibility-first approach, we constantly refine our designs across product development cycles, working closely with users to test and enhance usability. For instance, Samsung added audio guidance, color inversion or grayscale modes in their screen-equipped appliances for users with visual impairments. To make Samsung appliances easier to navigate, it keeps discovering new ways to enhance accessibility as shown in the award-winning[3]“Samsung Inclusive Essentials” concept, which aims to standardise sensory cues across products.
Building a More Inclusive Future Together
By seamlessly weaving intelligent, inclusive technology into everyday life, Samsung ensures that everyone—regardless of ability or environment—can enjoy connected and personalised experiences. From empowering communities through programs like Solve for Tomorrow to embedding accessibility into our products and services, we remain committed to enabling individuals to live more independently and open up more possibilities for people in their daily life.

### Conclusion
Samsung is positioned to lead in the secure smart home market by continually enhancing its security measures and addressing consumer concerns, promoting a future of integrated smart living that prioritizes safety.
Summary of Securing the Modern Home in Southeast Asia and Oceania for Smarter Living
Protecting our personal sanctuary and our belongings are second nature. This is why we check our locks, close our windows, and invest in gates. Today, however, the modern connected home has dozens of invisible, digital entryways: From smart TVs and refrigerators, to robot vacuums, speakers, and more. While these bring convenience in a new era of intelligent living, they also represent potential vulnerabilities from within.
This shift has not been lost on consumers in Southeast Asia and Oceania (SEAO). In fact, reports are finding that data privacy and security are key purchasing considerations for consumers in markets like Australia[1], Indonesia[2], and Singapore[3]. This sentiment is echoed in; a recent global Samsung survey found that respondents expect AI-driven security features to protect their homes and ensure their families’ safety, with “Security / safe” frequently cited as key criteria for AI home appliances[4].
With our increasingly connected lives, the very concept of home security needs a critical rethink. Having peace of mind now depends on safeguarding our digital lives with the same rigor that we apply to our physical ones. Unlike physical break-ins that usually leave visible signs, a digital intrusion is often invisible. The target is not your television set, but your personal data, your family’s routines, and your privacy.
A cybersecurity breach can extend far beyond your front door. Poorly protected devices can face malware risks, with attacks that potentially disrupt their features, give hackers access to device cameras, enable theft of data, and more.
For the modern consumer, the challenge of managing the security settings of their various home appliances has intensified, especially as they embrace more smart devices. This creates the need for a holistic, built-in solution that works seamlessly in the background, offering robust protection without requiring constant user intervention. Without the right safeguards in place, consumers could find themselves vulnerable to privacy breaches – just imagine a robot vacuum’s camera recording footage of house interiors without authorisation and revealing when a home is empty, or a compromised appliance revealing sensitive personal information like passwords and biometric data.
Security by Design, Our Layered Approach
At Samsung, our goal is to deliver trusted and personalised experiences through security solutions that aim to help protect your different connected devices and appliances. From on-device features like Knox Vault, to the Knox Matrix which enables ecosystem-wide protection, Samsung aims to provide you with ease, convenience, and care.
Samsung Knox is a comprehensive, multi-layered security platform that is designed to act as an invisible shield for the entire ecosystem of Samsung devices, with Knox Vault[5] and Knox Matrix[6] being key innovations within that platform.
Think of Knox Vault as a physical, safe built directly into the hardware of our devices. This is where data like cryptographic keys and digital certificates are stored, isolated from the main system. Across our screen-equipped home appliances, we’ve also integrated the Passkey[7] feature – a digital credential that allows users to log in to home appliance apps and websites[8] using biometrics such as fingerprints.
Connectivity within the Samsung ecosystem likewise helps to safeguard against threats when they go undetected. Samsung’s Knox Matrix creates a trusted, network that turns a smart home into a “smart shield,”. where more connected devices mean stronger overall security. The Trust Chain in particular — which is a part of Knox Matrix — is managed on a private blockchain, enabling devices to monitor each other for threats
Earning Consumer Trust Through a Legacy of Action
Our commitment to security is not a recent reaction to market trends, but a long-standing commitment to our customers. Samsung is an innovator in digital security, leveraging our global expertise from the highly secure mobile industry and applying it across our entire product portfolio.
As AI and connectivity make our homes more intuitive and helpful, the foundation of trust becomes more critical. Our goal is to deliver a smart home experience that is as secure as it is seamless.
To ensure this trust endures, we are already preparing for future threats. Samsung is actively researching Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC)[10], developing new security solutions to help our devices remain secure against potential quantum computing threats of tomorrow, helping to safeguard our products over their long lifecycles.
While our customers focus on locking their front door, they can have absolute confidence that Samsung is tirelessly securing every digital one. Our vision is clear: it’s not just about smarter living; it’s about safer living.

### End of Takeaways
These insights reflect the integration of astrology into consumer behavior, particularly during a critical shopping season like Black Friday.
Summary of Rising Star Signs and Falling Prices: Astrology Is Shaping Aussie Shopping Habits Ahead of Black Friday
New research from Samsung Electronics Australia reveals that nearly one third (31%) of Australians surveyed admit they have made a shopping decision in the past based on astrological timing, while more than half (53%) have been guided by astrology at some point throughout the year[1].
With Black Friday looming, the ever-growing prospect of stocking up on gifts ahead of the holiday season can make for an overwhelming time of year. However, research has uncovered that sometimes an element of divine intervention could be a deciding factor in what ends up in our shopping carts.
Financial behaviour expert and astrology enthusiast, Emma Edwards said “This November, Black Friday falls in a Mercury retrograde, so your star sign could be influencing your shopping habits. As someone who’s used a horoscope as an excuse to treat myself, I get it. But don’t let the planets derail your budget – stick to your list, shop with a clear head, and set a ‘walk-away’ price before you buy.”
Aussies let astrology guide their carts
Each star sign carries its own approach to shopping, Scorpios (28%) and Aquarians (28%) are most likely to agree that astrology influences what they buy, making them the most astrology-driven shoppers[2].
Geminis are often on the more indecisive side, which makes them the most likely to be practical and plan ahead when shopping (49%). This is mirrored by Leos’ thought process, being the most likely to rely on sales to find them based on astrology and divine timing (19%).
When it comes to what is actually in their carts, Aquarians (50%) are eyeing new phones, Leos (38%) are ready to upgrade their TVs, and Cancers (23%) are keeping things spotless this Black Friday with a new vacuum[3].
Tech tops this year’s Black Friday must-have list
Black Friday marks a key moment in the shopping calendar, with 93% of Australians surveyed planning to browse or shop the sales this year, with nearly one in two (47%) prepared to spend up to five hours hunting for the perfect deal online or in store[4].
Technology will again take centre stage this year, with more than half of Australians (58%) saying Black Friday sales will inspire them to invest in home tech or devices that make life easier. New mobile phones are a top priority this year, with 42% of Australians picking a new smartphone over anything else, while 58% agree they will be in the market this November for home tech or devices that simplify their lives[5] .
Shopping styles also differ across the country. Shoppers in the Northern Territory (40%) are the most likely to buy on impulse, while Queenslanders (46%) take a practical approach by planning ahead. Meanwhile, NSW shoppers (30%) are most likely to go with the flow, letting deals guide their decisions[6].
Samsung kicks off its Black Friday with exclusive deals available on Samsung.com/au from today until 19 November, with additional Black Friday offers to be announced later in November.

Summary of New Samsung research reveals Australians’ passion for art persists despite cost-of-living pressures

As Australians continue to feel cost of living pressures[1], new research from Samsung Australia indicates that the nation’s appetite for art remains strong suggesting that in challenging times people turn to art for inspiration. A third (34%) of Australian respondents – rising to almost half (48%) for those aged 25-35 years old – are currently dreaming of the day they get to travel to Paris to visit The Louvre, while nearly half (48%) of 25-35 years old respondents aspire to own a famous piece of art, even if they admit it’s unrealistic[2].
The new insights also highlight a growing desire to be exposed to fine art every day, despite the finer things in life feeling increasingly out of reach for many Australians. Nearly half (45%) of respondents say they’d like to have more art in their home[3], while over a third (38%) of respondents say they enjoy visiting art galleries on the weekend to relax and feel inspired.
According to Simon Howe, Director of Audio Visual at Samsung Australia, bringing world-class art into Australians’ homes has been a long-standing mission for the company. Since pioneering the concept of Art TVs via The Frame TV and Samsung Art Store[4] in 2017; Samsung has continually evolved its Art TV offering to help more Australians curate their own collections, enhance their home décor, and feel inspired, all through their Samsung TVs at home. In fact, in 2025, 90% of Samsung’s TV line-up features the Art Store[5], transforming more TVs into beautifully curated pieces of art when not being watched.
“The Frame TV and the Art Store were a revolutionary pairing that brought the calibre of MoMA, The Met, and Tate Modern into Australian living rooms,” said Mr. Howe. “The aim was to provide Australians with a virtual pass to access works from the world’s most talented artists spread across various countries, all from the comfort of home. Today, Australians purchase more Frame TVs per capita than any other country[6] reflecting a local appreciation for fine arts and culture steeped in human creativity.”
Mr. Howe added that for Samsung, the goal has always been to make world-class art more accessible, personal, and part of everyday life. “Australians are increasingly looking to the technology in their homes not just for function, but to elevate their living spaces and reflect personal style. We also know people want to feel relaxed and inspired at home — and art plays a huge role in creating that atmosphere.”
While generative AI art capabilities are increasingly available, Samsung insights reveal 60% of Australians worry that AI-generated art could pose a threat to human creativity and culture[7]. This further highlights the strong value Australians place on authentic, human-made works of art.
Today, Samsung’s Art Store features over 3,000 pieces of curated artworks from more than 800 artists and 70 world-class galleries and museums[8]. With the Art Store available on Samsung’s range of Neo QLED, 8K & 4K, and select QLED 4K TVs, artists like Australia’s Mulga and Sarrita King can be showcased alongside new curated collections from the 2025 Art Basel Paris Fair in TV sizes spanning 43” up to 115”. Continuing to enhance art experiences, Samsung has also released new innovations such as the Wireless One Connect Box[9] and Glare-Free[10] coating, both available on The Frame Pro and Neo QLED QN990F models, enabling Australians to display art via the Art Store cable-free like a true gallery piece.
“With almost half (46%) of our research respondents saying they like when they receive compliments on the art in their home[11], Samsung will continue to drive the Art TV category forward, bringing new ways for more Australians to feel inspired in their homes,” Mr Howe concludes.

In this first of a three-part series on how Galaxy AI[1] transforms everyday life, discover how Galaxy’s advanced camera experience integrates with intelligent processing for stunning outputs, transforming ordinary shots into lasting masterpieces.

Perfect Your Photos
Add in creative elements with Drawing assist
When you’re flipping through vacation photos with friends, there’s always that one great shot which captured the moment in all its glory, encapsulating the fun and excitement with your favorite group of people. And when you want to do something special and gift them a picture momento from one of your shared adventures, why not add a personal touch to make the photo extra fun – like sketching in a crown to celebrate them.
With Galaxy AI’s Drawing Assist[2]that brings ideas to life through sketches, text or image prompts, you can add in creative elements like crowns, balloons and more, with the option to choose from different styles like Watercolor, Illustrations, Sketch, Pop Art, and 3D Cartoon.
Remove the Clutter, Focus on What Matters
Move, erase or enlarge objects and let Generative Edit rebuild the background seamlessly
Ever captured a beautiful moment with a loved one then realised the shot was marred by a distracting element like passersby, or some unsightly mess that draws the eye away from what truly matters? Editing this to perfection might seem daunting especially if you have ever been frustrated by tools that erase unwanted objects but leave you with a blurry, unnatural mess.
Enter Photo Assist[3] which helps you move, erase or enlarge objects. You can also adjust angles and fill in backgrounds with AI-powered precision thanks to Generative Edit[4] which analyses the image and regenerates it accordingly. This means that when you remove an element, Generative Edit can rebuild the background seamlessly, ensuring the edited image looks so natural you can hardly tell it has been modified.
The all-new Suggest Erases feature also makes editing smarter and simpler by proactively suggesting elements to be removed with the tap of a button – for example, identifying passers-by, so you never miss the chance to refine your favorite shots.
Harness Limitless Creativity
