Apple first launched free engraving with the 2nd-gen AirPods in 2019 and expanded the options to include emoji in early 2020. But did you know you can put your own face on AirPods with free Memoji engraving? Here’s where and how to access the option.
If you head to Apple’s website to order a new pair of AirPods or AirPods Pro, you’ll see the option to personalize them with engraving. That includes being able to use over 40 emoji, the alphabet, or numbers.
However, along with AirPods Pro 2, Apple added the ability to engrave AirPods with Memoji exclusively through the Apple Store app.
Interestingly, Apple just highlighted the app’s exclusive Memoji engraving feature in the release notes of version 5.18 today. But it quietly made a mention of the option launching in the AirPods Pro 2 press release back in September.
Near the top under “Personalize them for free,” tap Add Engraving
Tap the text box > now tap the Memoji tab just above the emoji
Choose Allow Access
Now you can pick from your existing Memoji or create a new one
Tap Save in the top right corner when you’ve decided
Swipe down and buy your custom AirPods
Here’s how the process looks:
Apple allows you to use 29 different Memoji expressions. And you can also pick between the included animals, create a new one, or choose an existing custom Memoji.
When you’re all set, just hit “Save” in the top right corner and buy your custom AirPods. Thanks for reading our guide on how to engrave AirPods with Memoji!
Apple introduced Memoji Stickers as a part of the iOS 13 software update. These stickers might be a great way to make your conversations more engaging in iMessage and other messaging applications, but some iPhone and iPad users probably don’t really use them as much as some other enthusiasts do. There have even been some users who have been quite annoyed about how these new stickers took up half of the “Frequently Used” emojis section, and for a while there wasn’t really a way to disable them.
Now there’s an option available in settings that allows users to hide and disable Memoji stickers from the keyboard if they want to on iPhone and iPad.
As the name suggests, the frequently used section houses all the emojis that you’ve used the most for quick access. This means, you don’t really have to scroll through hundreds of them to find that one emoji you like every single time you try to send it to someone on any messaging platform.
If you’re one of those users who want to just get rid of Memoji Stickers from the keyboard, you’ve come to the right place. In this article, we’ll be discussing how you can hide these Memoji stickers from the onscreen keyboard of your iPhone and iPad.
How to Disable Memoji Stickers on iPhone & iPad
Here’s how you can hide Memoji Stickers from the keyboard in iOS and iPadOS:
Open “Settings” app from the home screen of your iPhone or iPad.
In the Settings menu, tap on “General”.
Now, you need to go to the Keyboard settings. Simply scroll down and tap on “Keyboard” as shown in the screenshot below.
Here, scroll all the way down and you’ll see the option to disable Memoji Stickers. Simply tap the toggle once to hide these stickers from your stock iOS keyboard.
If you open up the emoji keyboard on your iPhone or iPad now, you’ll notice all your frequently used emojis located just where it used to be in iOS 12.
That’s pretty much all you need to do in order to hide these annoying stickers from your keyboard.
This setting is mostly for the people who either don’t use the Memoji Stickers ability or straight up dislike this feature and want to keep it disabled permanently. Some may not like it because it took half of your keyboard too, which can be frustrating sometimes particularly if you don’t use the feature often. However, if you just want to hide it temporarily, you could simply swipe those Memoji Stickers on your keyboard to the left and it’d be saved the next time you open up the keyboard. This makes Memoji Stickers accessible whenever you want to use it with a simple swipe and you wouldn’t have to go to Settings every time you want to re-enable it.
Note if you don’t find this feature available it’s likely because you’re on an outdated iOS or iPadOS release, as this capability was introduced in iOS 13.3 and iPadOS 13.3. Thus you’d need to update your device to be able to hide Memoji Stickers.
Apple gives users a lot of control over Memoji Stickers with the introduction of this capability. If you choose to hide Memoji Stickers, you don’t have to worry about a part of your favorite emojis being hidden in the second page. You’ll have complete access to your frequently used emojis in the front page of the emoji keyboard, just like you used to in previous versions of iOS.
Want to make your own custom Memoji on an iPhone? Of course you do! Memoji are the custom version of Animoji, the quirky cartoony digital avatars available in the Messages app for new iPhones.
The fun thing about Memoji is that you can create a completely customized Memoji that can look like almost any character you set your mind to, with custom hair styles, skin, eye wear, head wear, eyes, lips, brows, nose, and many smaller customizations for each defining trait. You can make a little cartoon avatar of yourself, or of a character, or just create a completely unique avatar. After you make a Memoji, then using Memoji is the same as using Animoji, but first you have to create one to use.
This tutorial will show you the process of setting up and making your own unique Memoji on an iPhone.
The Memoji feature requires an iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS, iPhone XR, iPhone X, or newer model iPhone, with iOS 12 or later. This device limitation also applies to Animoji, as the feature does not exist on any older iPhone models, any iPad, or any Mac (yet anyway).
How to Create a Memoji on iPhone
Ready to make a custom Memoji? Here’s how the creation process works:
Open the Messages app on iPhone
Open any message conversation thread with any person you’d like to send a Memoji to
Tap on the Apps button to show the app icon bar in Messages (if it’s hidden)
Find and tap on the Monkey icon to open the Animoji section
Swipe over on the Animoji icons until you access “New Memoji” and tap on that
Start making your custom Memoji, you can customize skin, hair, head shape, eyes, lips, nose, brows, ears, facial hair, headwear, eyewear, and colors for each of those
When satisfied with your Memoji custom Animoji, tap on “Done” in the upper right corner to save it
You can now record little Memoji clips with your custom Memoji, just like any other Animoji, tap the red button in the corner to start recording your Memoji clip
When finished capturing your Memoji clip, tap the red stop button
Tap the arrow button to send the Memoji to the current contact in Messages
The Memoji clip arrives to the receiving person like any other Animoji would.
If the recipient is on a new enough iPhone model, the Memoji will play automatically, with the animated Memoji character and any audio you record with it. If the recipient is on an older iPhone, a Mac, iPad, or Android, the Memoji will arrive as a video clip that has to be played manually instead.
Once you save your Memoji you can use the same Memoji with anyone else in your contacts list, just select the Memoji character from the Animoji section of Messages as usual. In this regard, using an existing Memoji is exactly the same as using an Animoji in Messages on the iPhone.
You can also edit any Memoji at any time if you want to customize your Memoji or update it. If you want to preserve your original masterpiece Memoji, you can duplicate them and then make edits to the copied Memoji as well.
Or you can simply create a new Memoji at any time. Creating multiple Memoji can be a fun way to use the goofy feature in iOS, since you can really create some ridiculous looking characters.
If you create a particularly exciting Memoji that you’re proud of, remember you can convert an Animoji or Memoji to GIF with the Shortcuts app on iOS, which lets the Memoji sequence repeat endlessly automatically when sent to another person, even if they’re on an older iPhone, Mac, iPad, Android, or otherwise.
How you want to use the Memoji feature is up to you, but surely you’ll have some fun with it. So grab your compatible iPhone, make a Memoji, and have at it. You’re sure to get some laughs.
