What is HTC Vive?
The HTC Vive comes very expensive even someone can purchase a VR-ready PC that can drive the VR headset. How good is the HTC Vive? What is it? Is it worth the high price tag?
When the HTC Vive was introduced at the Mobile World Congress 2015, HTC have partnered with Valve to make a good gaming platform. In fact, a new gaming platform derived from using virtual reality. Fast forward a year later, the production model of the HTC Vive works like a charm. Shipment is on-going as well as development for different Steam games that may work with probably the best vr headset yet.
How does it work?
The HTC Vive is a virtual reality headset or a VR headset that makes immersive content like for example a video game by rendering two images with slightly different angle to give the user an authentic 3D perspective. The user’s movement is tracked by a very unique implementation of two base stations that dictate where the user are inside the virtual world.
The pair of base stations actually tracks the small divots on top of the two controllers and on top of the headset. To make the tracking highly accurate, there are 72 of these dots all over the controller and the headset for the base station to track.
What’s inside the retail box?
Aside from the virtual headset, there are the already discussed pair of base stations, two controllers, a fibre cloth to wipe down the lenses, a small hub that interfaces with the HTC Vive and the PC, charginc cords for the controllers and power cables for the base stations.
Included games are Job Simulator, Fantastic Contraption and The Lab. Right after purchase, the buyer would have to make sure that the personal computer to be used is powerful enough for the HTC Vive to run smoother games.
